CG 6535

It has been such a sad two weeks for our Coast Guard family! My heart goes out to the crew members of flight 6535 and their families.

On Tuesday, February 28th, a Coast Guard Dolphin crashed into Mobile Bay during a training exercise. On board were 4 members. All of whom have lost their lives.

Just after the accident occurred, they found ASTC (Chief Aviation Survival Technician, Rescue Swimmer) Jorge, he was unresponsive and later declared deceased.

Two days later, they recovered LCDR (Lieutenant Commander) Dale Taylor & LTJG (Lieutenant Junior Grade) Thomas Cameron 100 yards from the wreckage.

Yesterday, during the memorial for the men at Air Station Mobile in Alabama they found AET3 (Avionics Electrical Technician) Knight, 2 1/2 miles from where they recovered the fuselage.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the crew-members during this difficult time.

It is such a horrible, horrible tragedy. Something no person and their family should ever have to go through.

It's so hard being a military wife, knowing your loved one puts their life on the line each and every day. The work these men do is phenomenal! They are our true heroes. As a spouse, I just have to remind myself that God is watching over my military man and all my faith is in Him.

"A hero to me is someone who will put his or her life on the line to save a stranger, someone dedicated to helping others in any way possible. I would like to appreciate some heroes who often don’t get recognized. I am talking about the United States Coast Guard – a group of courageous men and women who put their lives at risk to help others. The Coast Guard doesn’t just save people from sinking ships like in the movies; they also help cities during disasters, guard our borders at sea, apprehend illegal drug dealers, and much more. The reason I consider them heroes is because they do an important job that not many of us would want to do, like jumping out of a helicopter into freezing water to save someone you don’t know. Our country is lucky to have courageous people like them to do these important and dangerous jobs. The men and women of the Coast Guard are sometimes known as unsung heroes – regular people changing lives every day. That is what I call a hero."

May the 6535, and her final crew, rest in peace.
